Actual Hike

El Rancho de las Golondrinas (The Ranch of the Swallows) is a 200 acre living historic museum that dates from the early 1700’s and was an important stopping place for goods and services for caravans along the famous Camino Real that ran from Mexico City to Santa Fe. Existing historic buildings were restored, period structures were erected and historic buildings were brought in from other sites around new Mexico. In addition to self guided tours, there are events offered every other weekend from May throught Sept. like: Spanish colonial Days, herb and fiber fest., wine fest., viva Mexico Fiesta, NM Food fest., Fiesta de los Ninos, Renaissance Fair, Harvest Festival and others. The charges vary by events, age etc. The volunteers are often dressed in period costumes and demonstrating different skills like blacksmithing, candle making, dyeing, cooking, weaving, wood working, tanning etc., etc..
