Highlights
Because it was formally only accessible by climbing up the mountain, it is one of the longest inhabited villages in the country. It is the 28th Historic Site designated by the national Trust for Historic Preservation.
CautionsIf you are allowed to tour the village, hiking down from the village instead of taking the van is a little steep and rocky.
Trailhead Directions
Take I-40 west to exit 108, not 102 as the signs say, and go SW to the visitor center and PARK.
Actual Hike
The Sky City Cultural Center and Haak’u Museum serves as the reception center and museum for visitors to the Pueblo of Acoma. It has been continuously occupied since the thirteenth century.
As of March 2023, the Pueblo of Acoma is closed for in-person tours. You can view an on-site vitual tour of the Pueblo instead.
